EXCEL - Expanding our Childrens Education and Learning

Teitsch-Kent-Fay Architects, P.C. would like to assist you and your district in planning an EXCEL project.

A June, 2006 memorandum from Carl Thurnau, Director of Facilities Planning, New York State Education Department establishes the following criteria for an eligible EXCEL project:

- The project must be reviewed by Facilities Planning and approved as an EXCEL Project.

- Did not have an SA-139 on file with New York State Education Department before April 1, 2006.

- Project must have expenses equal to or greater than 75% of the total costs qualify under one of the five approved categories. A maximum of 25% for other expenses including sitework will be permitted.

- Each of the items that make up the project fall within one or more of the following categories:
1. Education Technology
2. Health and Safety
3. Accessibility
4. Physical capacity expansion or school construction
5. Energy

Also included in the June, 2006 memorandum is the statement that EXCEL Aid can be applied to the difference between approved project cost and total project cost such that it is possible in some instances for there to be no local share.

Teitsch-Kent-Fay Architects, P.C. is currently working with several school districts, assisting the District Administration, and working collaboratively with the Districts Financial Team, to develop EXCEL projects specifically tailored to work within their EXCEL allocation, resulting in projects with little or no local share.
