Small Town vs Big City
Teitsch-Kent-Fay Architects, P.C. has been a staple in the Cazenovia community since the early 1960’s.
In 1966, Jack Teitsch decided to move his small architecture firm to the Village of Cazenovia. The reason for this move was quite simple, it was closer to his new home. However establishing the business in a small, tight-knit community came with several advantages for the architecture firm.
A major advantage we have found being located in the Cazenovia is our close relationship with other staples of the village. One of these is the local bank, Community Bank. When you enter the bank it’s like an episode from the old sitcom Cheers, when you walk in everybody knows your name. Over our many years of work we have been able to develop a close working relationship with Senior District Manager Barbara Houghton. This relationship not only makes it more enjoyable to visit the bank, but also has helped us better understand the complex financial details that are necessary when running a small business.
Many of you may know Cazenovia as the town surrounding Cazenovia College. We were incredibly saddened to see the College close its doors last year. For many years we had assisted Cazenovia College on several projects such as: Eckel Hall, Jephson Campus, and more. In addition to helping them complete architectural projects we were also happy to help provide the College students with our knowledge. Courtney Stewart who helps our team with interiors worked at the college as an adjunct professor.
Another Village staple that we have had the pleasure of working with is Cazenovia Public Library. Over our 57 years we have been able to assist the Library with several different projects: construction of the Library building itself as well as reconstruction of the porch and barn. This relationship continues to this day with us currently working on their Facilities Improvement Plan. It is incredibly rewarding to be able to still work on a project that we have been working on since our founding.
What makes working in the Village of Cazenovia unique is that unlike working in a big city many of our projects are within walking distance from the Teitsch-Kent-Fay Architects, P.C. office. This makes it easy for us to frequently stay up to date with projects’ progress. Not only that but being located in this small community has meant we have been able to form incredibly close relationships with the people we work with.
